Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko 2

Henneko 2 32What’s the meaning of this?

Who needs a facade when..

Saying how you really feel nets you a double date (the 1 guy 2 girl variation). Although Mr Pervert’s plan absolutely makes no sense whatsoever, does it really matter? A date is still a date. Though having said that, talking about marriage and what comes after is usually not a topic you’d wanna approach.

Hitting the arcades on the other hand, is more subjective (it being noisy and possibly crowded and all). But when one reaches Tsukiko’s level at UFO catching/claw craning, I would probably just make a living out of it, not to mention impressing bystanders, and making arcade owners sad at the same time too..

Everyone has their own “stuff” going on..

To be frank, most of the episode was mainly fluff and stuff so there isn’t any real developments except for Azuza, who is seen to be taking up not one but two jobs (wow kids these days have it tough huh). Is her heiress attitude just a bluff, like what Mr Pervert claims to be? From the looks of it, I’d venture a guess and say that because of her  past dealings with her “friends“, that unpleasant experience has resulted in her distancing herself from others in the present. Needless to say, this fact will be a focal point for the trio to address as the story progresses. On the other side of things, we now officially know that the Steel King is actually Tsukiko’s sister, Tsukushi (Tamura Yukari), if it wasn’t obvious enough already. Evidently, the sisters themselves have issues to sort out between them as they don’t seem to be on good terms with each other. Everyone has their own “stuff” to sort out indeed…

Mr Pervert, the seemingly happy-go-lucky dog bastard, appears to have it the easiest amongst the trio. Maybe being brutally honest isn’t such a bad thing after all? Well, his background circumstances haven’t been fleshed out just yet, so it would be unfair to critique him for “having the best out of both worlds”. How will he resolve both Tsukiko’s and Azusa’s crisis and become a true prince who saves the damsel in distress? I could certainly see it coming, from more than a mile away..

Episode thoughts and impressions

Just some technical ramblings here – which I usually avoid going into, but can’t help noticing it this time.

When watching Henneko and Oreimo, I’ve noticed the frequent usage of close-up shots, which I feel is a clever tactic employed to mask up the deficiencies in the overall animation quality. If you pay close attention to the background and during distant shots, you will notice that the details (or the lack thereof) in the background are rather simplistic. To make up for that, utilizing close-up shots is an effective method, because by focusing the viewer’s attention onto the characters, one would not pay too much heed to the background. Simple yet an effective technique.

The other thing I want to point out for Henneko is the use of comedic faces used to express the otherwise expressionless Tsukiko. Part of the bummer in watching Henneko is hearing a monotone Tsukiko, (although Azusa makes up for that). To break up the monotony in showing the same face over and over again, I’m glad that the animators chose to give her these expressions, which is something like legal cheating – “she’s not supposed to have any, but that doesn’t mean we won’t give her some”. The only downside I feel towards this is the over-usage of said comedic faces, it’s starting to feel like an overkill when I see it every alternate minute or so.
